PH celebrated the United Nations’ 70th founding Anniversary


Last October 24, 2015, the Philippines celebrated the 70th founding anniversary of the United Nations. An event was held at the SM Mall of Asia. The highlight of the event was the participation of the Philippines in the “Turn the world UN blue” campaign wherein the SM MOA globe was lighted UN blue, the first landmark in the world to be lighted.

The Diplomatic League member students were given the opportunity to attend this event organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs. UN Resident Coordinator Ola Almgren said his welcome remarks. Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. del Rosario spoke about the Philippines’ UN involvement since its beginning. There were also performances from WFP Goodwill Ambassador against Hunger KC Conception and UNICEF Celebrity Advocate Anne Curtis, as well as the shadow performance of the world renowned El Gamma Penumbra to the song ‘Colors of the Wind.’ The event also highlighted an exhibit of the different UN agencies as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

To end the event, fireworks were lit. The dignitaries, personalities in the Philippine diplomacy, guests, and friends, enjoyed the cocktail and buffet prepared.
